In Wayne, PA (just west of Philadelphia)

Light Rain or Shine on Saturday May 4TH

Leaving from the Camp Hill Arby’s at 8:30 A.M.

The Harrisburg Camera Club will be travelling to Chanticleer Gardens on Saturday May 4th. Photography would be of a landscape and floral nature. Chanticleer’s many gardens include Bells’ creek and woodlands, an Oriental garden, ruin and gravel garden, an orchard and pond garden, among others. The admission fee for the Gardens is $10.00. Tripods are allowed and you will need to sign a photography waiver. The wavier is available on their website: chanticleergarden.org. Photographers are asked to follow these etiquette guidelines:

1. Set up tripods on lawns or terraces, not in the garden beds, and allow for movement around you.
2. Follow the requests of gardeners and other Chanticleer staff
3. Respect the wishes of other guests
4. Leave the garden as you found it

The drive is about 97 miles and will take about 90 minutes according to Google maps. We will be car pooling from our usual location at the Arby’s side of the Camp Hill Giant Grocery Store, at 8:30 AM in the morning. Those members leaving from the Carlisle area; Randal Lathrop has designated the parking lot of the Carlisle Shopping Center (850 E. High St., Rt. 641) across from the Pizza Hut as the departure location. The Carlisle group will be leaving at 8:15. To contact Randal call 713-3185. Those leaving from the East Shore, we can carpool from Harrisburg Mall. Please park at the Toy’s R Us lot across from the Dauphin County Prison. I will need to know if we are picking anybody up in advance otherwise we will not stop in! We expect to be at the Gardens when they open at 10:00. We will take 581 to the PA Turnpike East. We will stop on the way down for a short bathroom break and coffee. We will be photographing until lunch, say 12 Noon. After lunch we will be making images until around 5:00 when we will return to Camp Hill. Expect a return around 7:00.

What you should bring: the usual; water, extra batteries, extra digital cards, comfortable shoes, a tripod, a macro lens for close-ups, possibly a flash for darkening backgrounds and/ or reflectors to throw additional light in dark places and money for lunch and dinner and to pay your driver for gas and tolls if you are carpooling. This event is a go rain or shine. It will only be cancelled in the event of an all day heavy rain.

In East Stroudsburg PA

Rain or Shine on Saturday April 20TH

Leaving from the Camp Hill Arby’s at 7:00 A.M.

The Harrisburg Camera Club will be travelling to International Boiler Works Abandoned Industrial Site on Saturday April 20th. Photography would be of an architectural nature. We would be photographing mostly interiors and details. There are also items to photograph around the grounds of the buildings which sit next to the railroad tracks. The company and the main building, as well as smaller buildings, were abandoned in 1992. Since that time it has become a victim of decay, weather, graffiti artist, paint ball and general teenage angst. Expect broken glass, broken windows, holes in the roof, rust, some machinery and general debris. The site is about a mile and a half north of the ESU. The drive is about 145 miles and will take about two hours and ten minutes according to Google maps.

We will be car pooling from our usual location at the Arby’s side of the Camp Hill Giant Grocery Store, at 7:00 AM in the morning. Those members leaving from the Carlisle area; Randal Lathrop has designated the parking lot of the Carlisle Shopping Center (850 E. High St., Rt. 641) across from the Pizza Hut as the departure location. The Carlisle group will be leaving at 6:45. To contact Randal call 713-3185. Those leaving from the East Shore, we can meet up with you at the Holiday Inn in Grantville at about 7:30. Just let Andy know in advance, otherwise we won’t stop. We expect to be at the site around 9:30. We will travel up I-81 to I-78 to Allentown and then head north on Route 33 North merging into Rt. 209 North to East Stroudsburg. We will stop on the way up for a short bathroom break and coffee. We will be photographing until lunch, say 12 Noon. After lunch we will be making images until around 5:00 when we will return to Camp Hill. Expect a stop on the way back for dinner.

What you should bring: the usual; water, extra batteries, extra digital cards, comfortable shoes, a tripod, a macro lens for close-ups, possibly a flash or reflectors to throw additional light in dark places and money for lunch and dinner and to pay your driver if you are carpooling. This event is rain or shine.
