Harrisburg Camera Club Meeting

May 8th at 7:15: SHOW and SHARE

Images Taken This Year onThis Seasons Camera Club Fieldtrips

We did it back in November and now the spring session. For those of you that did not show your work in November, please consider bringing it to this meeting.

Dinene Wolf will Kick-off the meeting with a special presentation of images that she took on a recent photography workshop in India.

The meeting is to show and share with the members of the club, photos you have taken on our fieldtrips. Members that have participated in the fieldtrips this season are invited to show their photos taken on the 2011-2012 season Camera Club fieldtrips. This season we went to J.W. Cooper High School in Shenandoah, in September, the Reading Railroad Heritage Museum in Hamburg and the Altoona Railroad Museum, Chimney Rock and Horseshoe Curve all in the Altoona Area; in October, the Grist Mill in the Mercersburg area and the Gettysburg Battlefield and the walking photography trip in Downtown Harrisburg. Since January we have made trip gallery hopping in Washington D.C., to the Rawling Flower Conservatory in Baltimore and the Hanover Shoe Farms trip last month. Don’t forget to show your images from the various photo fieldtrips we took for the night photography assignment. We have had good attendance on these fieldtrips, so those of you that attended the photo events, please show the members your work. If you presented work in November, please bring new images.

If you want to show and share your best or most interesting images taken on these fieldtrips with the members of the camera club, please place your images on a flash drive or CD and bring it with you to the meeting. All images should be reduced to the following parameters: Maximum length on the longest side 1920 pixels as a baseline jpeg. Just like the camera club competition file size. Randal will load each members file into his computer and we expect the maker to present and speak about their work.

Each member will have about 5 minutes to present their images and if you want to, talk about them. This is based on the number of presenters and divided by the time available. Less presenters more time, more presenters less time. I will bring a timer to keep members from going over the time allotted. This is a great opportunity to show your work to the other members of the club without the restraints of competition. For those that are not showing, this is a good example of what happens on our fieldtrips.

Any questions contact Randal Lathrop at vicepresident@harrisburgcameraclub.org

Saturday June 23rd leaving Camp Hill at 6:00 AUpdated 05/03/12

Dinene Wolf gets credit for setting up this trip. She has procured a standing reservation with the owner of the mill to photograph in one of the premier abandoned factory locations in the United States. The Lanoconing Silk Mill in Cumberland, Maryland is were the photo opportunity is located. This site is the amalgamation of J.W. Cooper School, Eastern State Penitentiary, the mill the club photographed at in Mercersburg and Bethlehem Steel all rolled up in one. Tony Sweet, Arthur Ransome and Denise Ippolito have held photography workshops there recently. We need a minimum of 10 members and no more that 20 to get in. Access to the site will be ours exclusively from 9:00-1:00 (four hours). The cost is $75.00 for the four hours. The money goes towards restoration of the mill and the security system that protects the site. The workshop fee of $75.00 will be paid at the Silk Mill in cash only, no credit cards, money orders or checks. Currently Dinene has five members signed up.

This fieldtrip will be only for Harrisburg Camera Club members. The deadline for signing up is Monday May 28th, Memorial Day. After that any openings will be given to photographers that have worked with the club in the past i.e. our judges and presenters. If they don’t respond then it goes to other camera clubs. If you are looking for images from the mill just Google Lanoconing Silk Mill or drop in on Arthur Ransome’s, Tony Sweet’s or Denise Ippolito’s web pages to start; there are other site that have images too. You won’t be disappointed. This is a rain or shine event. Be aware that there is no air conditioning in the mill, but since we will be in early, it may not be that hot.

Lanoconing is located about 10 minutes southwest of Cumberland Maryland. The drive there according to Google maps is about 2hrs. and 40 min. After we photograph there we will have lunch in Cumberland and probably photography some of the historic buildings in Cumberland, MD, such as the Western Maryland Train Station, the C&O Canal House.

If you are interested, please sign-up for the trip by contacting Dinene Wolf at
