Night Photography in Washington D.C., January 8th, 2012

I plan to host a “night photography” field trip to DC for Jan. 8th, leaving from “The Point at Carlisle Plaza” shopping center (across from Pizza Hut) at 1:00pm.  We should arrive in DC by 3:30pm, with an opportunity to photography several of the monuments and other sights before the sun goes down at 4:46pm.  Official night photography (for themed competition entries) will start at 5:46pm.  The full moon should be visible Sunday night, weather permitting.  We will be on the mall for opportunities to photograph the Washington, Lincoln, and Jefferson monuments, World War II Memorial, and the Capitol Building.  We should have some time to head across the river to shoot the Iwo Jima Memorial and DC back across the river.  If anyone has other ideas, please pass them along.  The trip should depart DC around 7:30-8:00pm back to Camp Hill.

We will need a minimum of 4 people to hold this field trip, for safety reasons.  Dress warm for the cold weather – coat, gloves, hat, earmuffs, etc.  Bring along a tripod, remote trigger, flash, wide-angle lens, telephoto lens, and extra batteries – cold weather does shorten battery life.  Carry the batteries inside your coat to keep them warm, ensuring maximum utilization.  Please bring a cell phone along to keep in touch with the group.
