We are going to try a new and different approach to critiquing prints in this session.
On Tuesday night July 24th, the Harrisburg Camera Club will be holding a Summer print critique night. We will be doing something different this time. All participants that bring prints will lay them out on tables spread out in the room. Everyone, whether you bring a print or not, will be a part of the critiques. All those attending the meeting will be asked to critique the images anonymously with colored tags. Participants will be judging the prints by placing colored tags next to the prints. After the images are tagged we will discuss the merits of the prints. We will have detailed instructions printed out when you arrive. Come to the meeting and let’s try something different.
Here are the Print critique guidelines for this meeting only.
1. Only paid HCC members will get their prints critiqued. Non-members or HCC members that did not bring prints will be encouraged to participate in the critique process.
2. Only two (2) Monochromatic/B&W prints per person and two color prints per person. A member is allowed to bring a maximum of four prints.
3. These prints do not need to be mounted or matted. That will be at the discretion of the maker. Minimum size is 8 x10 maximum 16 x 20

PHOTO FIELDTRIP to LILYPONS GARDENS IN ADAMSTOWN MD (near Frederick MD)
Rain or Shine on SATURDAY JULY 28TH Leaving from the Camp Hill Arby’s at 6:00 A.M.
The Harrisburg Camera Club will be travelling to Lillypons Gardenson Saturday July 28th. We will be car pooling from our usual location at the Arby’s side of the Camp Hill Giant Grocery Store, at 6:00 AM in the morning. We expect to be at Lilypons Gardens at 7:15. The owners of the business are sending me the key to unlock the gate so we can get in before anybody else. We will have nointerference from customers. LilyponsGardens does not open for business until 10:00 on Saturdays.
So what makes this location different from other photo fieldtrips? For one the site has ponds of aquatic wildlife and plants. Expect to find frogs and turtles, lily pads, water lilies, lotus blossoms and some flowers. The grounds are also residences for birds, in particular herons and egrets. They have ponds of Koi fish, some of the fish are very large. The main sales house on the grounds is painted pink, so there are other possibilities there. The fact that we have free run of the place for over two hours is another plus. We expect to leave the gardens at noon to return to Camp Hill.
What you should bring: the usual, extra batteries, extra digital cards, comfortable shoes, a tripod, a macro lens for plants and flowers, a medium to long lens for amphibians and birds, a hat and money to pay your driver and possible eats. Other items to bring if you have them: bug spray, a reflector and/or a flash for filling in shadows and a scrim or diffuser to cut harsh light. You will also find that a polarizing filter will be must helpful to cut glare and darken the water. Water and other liquid refreshments are available after 10:00. There is no entrance fee or shooting fee and tripods are welcome. This event is rain or shine.

Harrisburg Camera Club MeetingMay 8th at 7:15: SHOW and SHAREImages Taken This Year onThis Seasons Camera Club Fieldtrips
We did it back in November and now the spring session. For those of you that did not show your work in November, please consider bringing it to this meeting.
Dinene Wolf will Kick-off the meeting with a special presentation of images that she took on a recent photography workshop in India.
The meeting is to show and share with the members of the club, photos you have taken on our fieldtrips. Members that have participated in the fieldtrips this season are invited to show their photos taken on the 2011-2012 season Camera Club fieldtrips. This season we went to J.W. Cooper High School in Shenandoah, in September, the Reading Railroad Heritage Museum in Hamburg and the Altoona Railroad Museum, Chimney Rock and Horseshoe Curve all in the Altoona Area; in October, the Grist Mill in the Mercersburg area and the Gettysburg Battlefield and the walking photography trip in Downtown Harrisburg. Since January wehave made tripgallery hopping in Washington D.C., to the Rawling Flower Conservatory in Baltimore and the Hanover Shoe Farms trip last month. Don’t forget to show your images from the various photo fieldtrips we took for the night photography assignment. We have had good attendance on these fieldtrips, so those of you that attended the photo events, please show the members your work. If you presented work in November, please bring new images.
If you want to show and share your best or most interesting images taken on these fieldtrips with the members of the camera club, please place your images on a flash drive or CD and bring it with you to the meeting. All images should be reduced to the following parameters: Maximum length on the longest side 1920 pixels as a baseline jpeg. Just like the camera club competition file size. Randal will load each members file into his computer and we expect the maker to present and speak about their work.
Each member will have about 5 minutes to present their images and if you want to, talk about them. This is based on the number of presenters and divided by the time available. Less presenters more time, more presenters less time. I will bring a timer to keep members from going over the time allotted. This is a great opportunity to show your work to the other members of the club without the restraints of competition. For those that are not showing, this is a good example of what happens on our fieldtrips.
Lanoconing Silk Mill, Cumberland MDSaturday June 23rd leaving Camp Hill at 6:00 AUpdated 05/03/12

Tony Sweet, Arthur Ransome and Denise Ippolito have held photography workshops there recently. We need a minimum of 10 members and no more that 20 to get in. Access to the site will be ours exclusively from 9:00-1:00 (four hours). The cost is $75.00 for the four hours. The money goes towards restoration of the mill and the security system that protects the site. The workshop fee of $75.00 will be paid at the Silk Mill in cash only, no credit cards, money orders or checks. Currently Dinene has five members signed up.
This fieldtrip will be only for Harrisburg Camera Club members. The deadline for signing up is Monday May 28th, Memorial Day. After that any openings will be given to photographers that have worked with the club in the past i.e. our judges and presenters. If they don’t respond then it goes to other camera clubs. If you are looking for images from the mill just Google Lanoconing Silk Mill or drop in on Arthur Ransome’s, Tony Sweet’s or Denise Ippolito’s web pages to start; there are other site that have images too. You won’t be disappointed. This is a rain or shine event. Be aware that there is no air conditioning in the mill, but since we will be in early, it may not be that hot.
Lanoconing is located about 10 minutes southwest of Cumberland Maryland. The drive there according to Google maps is about 2hrs. and 40 min. After we photograph there we will have lunch in Cumberland and probably photography some of the historic buildings in Cumberland, MD, such as the Western Maryland Train Station, the C&O Canal House.
