Digital Image Competition Tuesday February 8th 7:30

We have one excellent, well versed judge for this next to last regular competition and I’m working on getting a second.  The www.harrisburgcameraclub.com site is ready for your uploads.

This will be your next to last opportunity to have an images eligible for the digital image of the year competition in April.

Chris Heisey has been a newspaper photographer for over 20 years for the “Catholic Witness” publication,  Chris is also one the nations top Civil War photographers with nationally published calendars, his own book and collaborative books by writers using his images.  Chris has also branched out into wildlife photography. Mr. Heisey has judged for us before and he is a tough, but far judge. We will provide details about our second judge when available.  You can expect the judges to become more critical in the last three months.

Don’t forget your images need to be uploaded to the www.harrisburgcameraclub.com site by Midnight February 3rd.  There will be no exceptions! Also double check that you have loaded your images in correctly.  The best way is to leave the site completely and reenter the site to check your uploaded images.

‘Art Kaleidoscope’ at the Midtown Scholar – Tuesday 1/25

“Art Kaleidoscope” at the Midtown Scholar Bookstore at 1302 North 3rd Street in Harrisburg next to the Broad Street Market

This will be the initial presentation of work by multiple artist in the Harrisburg area.  Photographers, painters, sculptures, writers and musicians will be given only five minutes to present their work, hence the title “Art Kaleidoscope”.  The intent is to make this a monthly program.  The program will open at 6:00 P.M. and run until 9:00.  The actual presentations are scheduled to start at 6:30.  The event is billed as a chance for artists to meet and discuss their works in a relaxed social setting.  There is a coffee shop within the book store for refreshments.

One of our yearly photography judges, Mike Donovan, will be presenting a 40 image  program on Doors, Gates and Windows from Europe to music and  HCC member Andrew Hoff will be presenting a 40 image program set to music on Abstract Photographs.

Most programs will be digitally projected.  We are hoping that the weather holds off till after 10:00.  This should be an interesting on of a kind presentation.

Print Critiques

SATURDAY MORNING

 JANUARY 22nd at 10:00 A.M.

Guest Speaker – Mark Pynes

Director of Photography for the Patriot News

The Harrisburg Camera Club is trying something new.  Do to the response last season of the number of prints and the limited time to critique them, we have moved the print critiques to Saturdays for 2011.  We have one of the smaller conference rooms for our print critiques starting at 10 in the morning until 1:00 in the afternoon.  This should give us enough time to critique and discuss all the prints. This will be the second of three print critique meetings.

The guest photographer for the meeting will be Mark Pynes, the Director of Photography for the Patriot News.  As Director of Photography, Mark leads a staff of nine photographers, edits local and AP wire photos, and also coordinates photo coverage for PennLive.com and a quarterly magazine, In Central Pennsylvania.  Mr. Pynes graduated from the University of Oregon and spent time working for AP and local papers before accepting a position with the Sacramento Bee  and then the Sacramento Union  newspapers.  After 20 years of working in the Sacramento area he went to another paper in Solano County, just above San Francisco as a photo editor; a position he held for seven years.   He has been working for the Patriot-News since 1998.

This is the first time Mark has spoken to the Harrisburg Camera Club.  Please bring your best work so we can make an impact on him and show him the quality images that the club makes. You must be a paid member to have your prints critiqued: the rules are still the same. Complete rules and Andrew Hoff’s contact info, for any questions you may have, are available in the member’s section.

We will hold our third and last print critique on Saturday February 26th at 10:00 in the morning.

Where Eagles Dare To Go

Tom Mulder conniwingo-dam-bald-eagle-edit-1-1-of-1We arrived at the dam about 8:00am after an 1 ½ hr drive, met by a sea of glass. Long glass if you get my drift.  Not the best count for the day for Eagles, but if 20 or so in one place could be considered a good day, it was. Lots of Black Vultures, Sea Gulls and a few Great Blue Herons. Eagles and Vultures become more active about 9:00 when the sun has dried their wings from the cool nights. A mature Eagle landed about 30ft off the ground in a tree next to the lot and hung around for a few images.  Others were landing in trees behind the lot and provided a chance to get a shot or two.  Temperatures in the 30’s and the wind kicking up about 9:00 we decided to head home at 11:00. Eagles are migrating so new ones will come and go through out December. Warm clothes, extra batteries, something warm to drink and a willing Eagle to photograph. A good time was had by all.

A Hanging at the Library

HCC Exhibition at the Charley Krone Gallery in the New Cumberland Library

Nov 5th – Dec 30th

No it wasn’t that kind of hanging. Several members of the Harrisburg Camera Club met at the New Cumberland Library to hang photographs for our latest exhibition of club member’s works. Below are some photos of some of our members at work. My apologies to Karen Commings and Don Uvick for not having usable photos with them. I was trying to avoid using a flash and therefore blurred some of the pictures. Those pictured are George Rhyne, Brad Booth, Mary Yeany and Steve Bootay.

We encourage the club members, whether or not you have photos at this event. to stop by and see the works displayed. Please don’t forget to tell your family and friends to stop by as well. The photos can be found on the second floor of the Library.  And the library is located at 1 Benjamin Plaza, New Cumberland PA.
